The Western Cape Province is one of the most beautiful wine and food regions of the world.
Most of our day tours (group or private) visit the wine growing regions of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
However, you are welcome to spend a whole day in only one area (on a private tour basis) where you can explore all the wines, food, galleries and other hidden gems of that area.

The Franschhoek Wine and Food Route has been known as the Gourmet Capital of South Africa for many years due to all the amazing restaurants and wine estates in the area.
Add to this the absolute natural beauty of this valley and you can understand why guests flock to this area during the whole year.
Franschhoek Wine Route spans a relatively small area and many of the 50 or so estates can be reached within a radius of 5km’s to 10km’s (some are a bit further).
The beautiful valley of Franschhoek is surrounded by mountains on 3 sides which offers spectacular views.
Here in Franschhoek breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world-class cuisine and the finest wines all combine to create lasting memories.

Stellenbosch Wine and Food Route is the oldest established wine route in South Africa and with more than 300 wine estates in the greater Stellenbosch wine area each visitor to this vibrant town has lots to look forward to.
When the Stellenbosch Wine Route was established in 1971 many people viewed this as the start of wine tourism in South Africa.
Not only did it herald the first co-operative venture between a corporate entity and a wine region, but it also enabled a specific wine region to approach the whole topic of wine tourism on a level that had until then not been seen in the South African wine industry.
Stellenbosch is only 45 minutes from Cape Town by car, so the wine and food areas are easily accessible to everyone visiting the Western Cape Region.
The town of Stellenbosch, which lies at the heart of the winemaking area, is a gorgeous, historical university town with some of the best preserved Victorian and Georgian buildings along Dorp Street, itself a National Monument.
Its oak-lined streets are home to a number of excellent restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques and galleries.
The University of Stellenbosch is the only one in South Africa with a Viticultural and Oenological department and Stellenbosch is home to one of the most modern experimental wineries in the world.

Paarl Wine and Food Route is one of South-Africa’s most famous wine-producing areas and is located only 1 hour inland from Cape Town.
The Paarl Wine Route, renowned for its rich, full-bodied, spicy red and crisp white wines, is the second oldest in the country after Stellenbosch.
The area is best known of the quality of its Shiraz, the climate in particular favouring this varietal.
Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinotage, Viognier and Mourvedre are increasingly well regarded.
The town of Paarl is bordered on the east by the Boland Mountains and on the west by the imposing Paarl Rock.
Paarl Rock is the second biggest granite outcrop in the world after Aires Rock in Australia and is also home to the magnificent Afrikaans Language Monument.
On a clear day it is possible to see Table Mountain in Cape Town from the top of Paarl Rock.
The vineyards of the Paarl Wine Region are found on the lower slopes of Paarl Rock, on the northern side of Simonsberg Mountain and in the valley of the Berg River.
Wine Estates which stands out in the Paarl Wine Region include Spice Route, Fairview Wine Estate, Laborie, KWV, Nederburg Estate, Boland Kelder, Calais Wine Estate, Druk my Niet Wines, Freedom Hill Vineyards, Landskroon Wines, Mellasat Wines, Olsen Private Vineyards, Perdeberg Winery, Rhebokskloof Wine Estate, Ridgeback Wine Farm, Under Oaks, Vendome, Windmeul Kelder and Zandwijk Wines.
The Helderberg Wine and Food Route comprises the town of Somerset-West, Strand and Gordon’s Bay.
The vines lie on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains and combine the influences of both a mountain and maritime climate, producing some very unique wines.
The 30+ members of the Helderberg Wine Route follow distinctly different methods of growing grapes, from a 500 year old historical cellar to state of the art boutique wineries and visiting the wide range of family-owned estates and grand manor houses.
Some of the Helderberg Wine Estates offer spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean.
You will also find very good restaurant for wine and food pairings in this wine region.
Somerset-West and Strand is only 20 minutes from the Cape Town International Airport which makes this very convenient for anyone wishing to visit.
Wine estates which stands out in the Helderberg Wine Region include Idiom Wine Estate, Lithos, Journey’s End, Waterkloof Wine Estate, Flagstone, Morgenster Wine and Olive Estate, Vergelegen Wines, Lourensford Estate, Croydon, Miravel, Kings Kloof, Wedderwil and Yonder Hill.
Within the Constantia Wine and Food Route you will find the oldest wine estate in South Africa.
Simon van der Stel founded Constantia’s first wine farm, Groot Constantia, in 1685.
The Constantia Wine Valley is very small compared to other wine regions, but here you will find some of the most spectacular wine experiences in the world which offers a unique blend of centuries-old established wine homesteads and new style boutique wineries in a setting of unsurpassed beauty and heritage.
The added bonus is that the Constantia Wine Route is less than 30 minutes’ drive from Cape Town.
Wine estates which stands out in the Constantia Wine Region includes Steenberg Vineyards, Groot Constantia, Constantia Uitsig, Constantia Glen, Klein Constantia, Eagle’s Nest, Buitenverwachting, Beau Constantia, Silvermist Estate, High Constantia, etc.

The Durbanville Wine and Food Region falls under the new Wines of Origin Cape Town district.
Durbanville Wine Valley is a mere 20 minutes’ drive from the heart of Cape Town.
This lovely wine and food region is fast becoming Cape Town’s destination of choice for wine tours with its scenic vineyards, award-winning wines and friendly atmosphere.
Each winery has its own charm and expresses timeless country elegance through the collection of wines they produce and the culinary experiences they have on offer.

The Hermanus Wine and Food Route (also known as the Hemel-en-Aarde Wine Valley), is known for its lush Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines.
Hermanus is also known as the land-based whale watching capital of the world and a visit between the months of May to September will ensure great whale sightings.
It is worth mentioning that it is well worth staying in this wine area for at least 2 nights due to all the magnificent wine and food activities as well as the farmer’s markets (especially on weekends).

The Robertson Wine and Food Valley association was formed in 1983 to cohesively improve the local wine industry, promote the valley as a tourism destination and uplift the community.
Today, there are more than 50 wine estates within the greater Robertson Wine and Food Route.
These wine estates also include wines from the Ashton, Bonnievale and McGregor wine growing regions.
Robertson Wine Valley is situated 2 hours scenic drive from Cape Town on the renowned Route 62 and nestled between the majestic Langeberg and Riviersonderend mountain ranges with the graceful Breede River running through the valley.

The Elgin Wine and Food Route is the most up and coming and most talked about wine region in South Africa.
The Elgin Wine Valley is home to probably the best cool climate wines in the country.
This is helped by the fact that Elgin sits on at least 350 meters above sea level.
In terms of rainfall and cloud cover, Elgin comes up tops of all wine regions in South Africa.
This is also ideal for a weekend getaway as Cape Town sits only 1 hour away on the N2 highway.
The Elgin Wine Route is famous for warm hospitality and very friendly people who will always welcome you with a glass (or two) of wine.

The beautiful Stanford Wine Route is only 25 minutes’ drive from Hermanus, one of the most popular holiday destinations in South Africa.
From vineyards set on sandy dunes, rocky mountain slopes and fertile lands, wine makers are producing top quality wines that are winning awards and accolades among those in the know.
The Stanford Wine Route was officially launched in October 2015 to the delight of the media and world of wine.
When you visit the Stanford route you won’t only find wines – some of South Africa’s best gins are distilled here and you will also find beer breweries and grappa distilleries here.
The Stanford Wine Valley meanders through breath-taking open countryside and a warm welcome awaits you at the beautiful tasting room and cellars.
Many of the farms offer delicious lunches and picnics in tranquil settings.

More known as a premier seaside holiday destination, the recently launched Plettenberg Bay Wine and Food Route is fast becoming a “must visit” wine destination on the famous Garden Route of South Africa.
The Plettenberg Bay winelands is a unique wine and bubbly centred experience.
The very first grapes was planted in 2001 on the Bramon Wine Estate making the Plett Wine Route the youngest wine route in South Africa.
Varietals such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc thrive in the cooler climate wine region.
Currently there are only 16 wine estates that make up the Plettenberg Bay Wine Route and they include Andersons Wines, Bramon Wine Estate, Plettenvale Wines, Luka Wines, Packwood Wine Estate, Newstead-Lund Family Vineyards, Redford Lane Wines, Lodestone Wine and Olives, Kay & Monty Vineyards, That Wine, Bitou Vineyards, Olof, Nooitgedacht, Fijnbosch Wine Estate, Gilbrook, Lombard and Somca.
Plettenberg Bay is only 30 minutes’ drive from the beautiful town of Knysna on the Garden Route.
The Swartland Wine and Food Route consists of the villages of Malmesbury, Piketberg, Porterville, Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West.
Sweeping wheat fields – golden in summer, mint-green in winter – are punctuated by azure dams on working farms, and sheep and cattle dot the landscape.
Huge swathes of natural vegetation burst with fynbos plants – proteas, restios and Ericas – and the rich resident birdlife is complemented in spring by migrants.
In this little Mediterranean corner of the world, fruit orchards abound, vineyards carpet the slopes and olive groves nestle around unexpected corners.

The Tulbagh Wine and Food Route has always been celebrated for the beauty of its setting and the historical significance of its town.

Wine estates from the Tulbagh Wine Region have received a string of national and international awards including Diners Club Wine Maker of the Year, a healthy spread of gold and double-gold Veritas Awards and numerous others.
Tulbagh Wine Route has always been innovative in its approach to wine making, with Twee Jonge Gezellen being the first estate to introduce night harvesting in South Africa, a concept now employed by many producers throughout the Cape Winelands.
The secluded Tulbagh Valley is surrounded on three sides by the Groot Winterhoek, Witzenberg and Obiqua Mountains.

The picturesque Wellington Wine and Food Route is a scenic 45-minute drive from Cape Town and 15-minute drive from Paarl.
